Rabbit
Rabbit meat is leaner than beef, pork, and chicken meat. It’s (supposedly) gamier, which makes it a good contender for Raw Dog Food. We got our first chub of it last week, and Gunner will have his first taste a little later this week.
I don’t think this would ever be a frequent addition to Gunner’s diet, as the Beef options and Game birds are working well. The drawback I have with Rabbit is that 1) They are notorious for having parasites 2) Some people keep them at pets. (Thats pretty low on my list of concerns, people will keep anything as a pet – including a high maintenance German Shepherd)
Makes you wonder what the facility that produces this looks like. I’m picturing a large Vat with flames spitting out the top while lines of lemming-like rabbit’s await their fate. Sad… and a silly thought.
I don’t think Gunner will exercise as much sympathy for his meal as I will.
I’ve eaten Rabbit. A long while ago when I was in the Army we killed and skinned one for “survival training”. Where I would find a fat pet shop bunny in the woods while under dire circumstances is beyond me, but it was an interesting exercise nonetheless.
Rabbit’s have very, very little meat on them. They are lean little devils, they do taste just like chicken, and they almost aren’t worth the effort to eat (unless of course it was all you had)
I wonder what that would taste like on the smoker…
