Potential for new dog park? A side project…
My “go-to” park, Cedar Hills Park in Beaverton, OR is in the beginning stages of a big makeover. They posted a sign last year stating the county was in the draw up phase and would give the locals a chance to give input on what would be developed. So far, their website lists a “splash park” and “other park amenities”. Naturally, I’d like to see an official off leash area and I know many other’s who would support such an idea.
I wrote and email last year (Below) and the response was polite, informative, and quick. (were you expecting a complaint?). Actually, I was very pleased. I’ll leave their response out since its not polite to post things without permission. I wrote the gal again yesterday since I haven’t heard anything yet, and I’ll be very disappointed if the project is moved forward without community involvement.

Thank you for your response! I was surprised and happy to see the Project sign. I frequent this park virtually every morning because of it’s proximity to my home. It’s a wonderful area for me to exercise my dog “Gunner” and it is somewhat an unofficial meeting ground for other dog owners (I’m sure the attached Petsmart has encouraged it) .
It would be unfortunate for myself and others if the new design doesn’t address the local demand for an “off-leash” area. I know from speaking with owners at other dog parks that our neighborhood can be limiting. We have heavy traffic and many of the streets have no sidewalks. The other green-spaces in the area are not conducive to pets… either because of wildlife or business (the back side of Nike is Gunner’s favorite)
Two great examples of successful parks are the Hillsboro’s “Hondo” and Multnomah’s “Gabriel”. You can go at any hour of the day and see the that areas are wildly popular and often crowded.
How can I become an advocate for this? I’d love to provide more feedback and participate if appropriate. Or, please let me know if this has already been considered and dropped. END QUOTE
